The open road
This morning we left the wonderful Augusta de Mist at Swellendam and set off on the N2 towards Cape Town. The blip shows the kind of roads we were travelling - so straight, up and down and empty. (It is not the same when one reaches an urban environment, things can be a quite bit trickier.)
Then we crossed the mountains and headed down to the coast.
We are now in a lovely, spacious apartment in Fish Hoek, with sea views and minutes from the beach and town. We are settled here for a few days. It is not the place everyone would choose, but we like it very much. It is still hot, but we now have more cloud covering.
My blip is the one that is most relevant to the day, but I had to include the extra - the Dutch Reformed Church in Swellendam, as it claims to be the most photographed church in South Africa.
Last night six of us were served the most wonderful African menu. We sat out on the verandah and dish after dish appeared - absolutely delicious and beautifully served. Wine was consumed and there was much chat and jollity. What a fabulous evening! If you are ever in the area . . .
