The Breakwater Lighthouse...
...as seen while LOOKING OUT over Port Washington Harbor. A person can usually walk from shore all the way along that breakwater wall out onto the platform and stand under the lighthouse, but the same storm surge that took out part of South Shore's deck/observation platform took out a large area of the walkway where it meets the shore, & it hasn't been repaired yet. I started talking to a guy that was out walking--he grew up in Port Washington--and said that in all those years, with all the terrible storms that come off the Lake, never had it affected the walkway that was built by the civil engineers back in the 1930's. But a few years ago, with the downtown development of condos and shops along the Lake, the city wanted the area to look prettier, so they re-did it. Only their "pretty areas" can't stand up to the force of the waves, so this is the second time it's been taken out by a storm surge, & he wishes they'd stop worrying about "pretty" & concentrate on function. This lighthouse, which is still in use, was built in 1935 & is equipped with both a light and a foghorn to guide small ships into the harbor. Thanks to SueMiddleton for hosting MonoMondays this month, and for her theme of "looking out". Hope you all had a great start to the week. :))
