Cacti in Graaf Reinet

We were sad not to be with nearest and dearest for consolation and support for the Brexit night but in a way it was good not to need to know too much about what would no doubt be crowing and jubilation from some quarters.

Today we drove from Tsitsikamma to Graaf Reinet in the Karoo. It was around 5 hours driving through not very interesting landscapes of bush then semi-desert. From the cool of the coastal haar we are now in 35 degrees. There is a water shortage here and a problem with power supplies nationwide. Apparently due to lack of investment in maintenance they now have to switch off power to do the maintenance. This is a pretty old Boer town with many old Dutch-style buildings. We saw some stunning cacti and succulents on our way to the alcohol pharmacy. I had a swim. go
