Ruthin

Today's the day .......................... for seven eyes

I've written before about some of the intriguing buildings to be found in the little Welsh town of Ruthin.  This is the one known as the Saith Llygad (seven eyes) because of the seven dormer windows in its red tile roof.

It is very old building dating back to medieval times - but it is said that at some time along the way, a certain builder from the Netherlands brought a load of bricks from his homeland to Ruthin, re-building this house in the Dutch style.  It was owned by some of the most influential families in the area in Elizabethan times - Richard Clough and later Sir Hugh Myddleton in 1595, who provided London with its first supply of fresh water.

It has been keeping an eye (or seven) on things in the town for a very long time .........................
