Aqueduct

Good Evening/ Morning/ Afternoon Blipland :-)

Today's photo is of The Boothtown (Now known as Greystanes, a suburb in Sydney's West) Aqueduct.

It was built in 1883 for the opening of the Upper Nepean Scheme in 1888. The Aqueduct was built to link the canal to either side of the gully and is made of English Bond Brickwork. It was a great landmark but did not fulfill it's role. In 1892 the walls collapsed from the pressure of the water being carried by the channel. The walls were reconstructed with large brick plugs blocking the water from re-entering and is now used as a walking/bike track and known in the town as "The Canal". Some disrespectful hooligans have defiled it with their tags, but nevertheless, it still holds some good history.

Here endeth the lesson :-)
