Sweet and Wild

There's a strip of rainforest that's been preserved along the banks of the Obi Obi river which runs through this little town of Maleny, One of the endemic Aussie shrubs commonly found there is this lovely Cinnamon Myrtle ((Backhousia myrtifolia).

It smells delicious and the leaves can be used as an alternative to the usual cinnamon - in cakes, biscuits, curries and rice. The flowering stems are often used by florists in arrangemenhts and bridal bouquets as the blooms are so beautiful. Not bad for a wild plant!
