Not What It Seems
I went into the garden this morning to find we'd had a little early rain (hooray!) though only enough to settle the dust, but the plants were looking more cheerful. As I focused on this Lily (Lilium candidum) a little insect landed on it so it became star for the day.
It's an Orange-shouldered Wasp Moth (Amata humeralis; in this shot it has its wings outstretched but when a predator such as a bird comes near, it folds them against its body to look wasp-like in shape and colour - which saves it from being eaten. A master of disguise!
