ANCIENT AND MODERN
More of the 'One Street' project. So many of the original chimmney pots in the street have been replaced - this one at No 18 proudly carries all originals, bar one. In Scotland, we call the wee bit on the top the 'granny' - I believe its role is to increase draught. I was ignorant of this until I got the chimney in my parents' house cleaned for them. The chimmney cleaner shoke his head solemnly and said, 'Aye, hen, yer granny's gone.' 'But that was years ago she died!', I replied, astonished at his knowledge.
I have been searching the net to find out if the design of these grannies with the tiny holes has a name, but so far, no luck.
We had a tiny sprinkling of snow during the night, but not enough to get excited or terrified.
