Train Spotting
Change of plan today.
As it is St Valentine's Day - the day Frank and I got together 23 years ago - we thought we'd push the boat out! (No, not the actual boat!).
We walked round to Shed 24 - the cafe at Hellifield Station - for a cuppa and a toasted tea cake (last of the big spenders :-D).
I took my own non dairy spread and oat milk but I was happy when the lady said they have soya milk.
As we left she said they would be busy at lunch time as a steam train was coming.
Well, we couldn't resist that!
We went home and walked back again 2 hours later. The train - Union of South Africa - was just steaming in when we arrived.
The station soon filled up with the regular trainspotters, all laden with back packs, cameras + long lenses.
Hellifield is where the steam trains take on water so it is a popular place.
The people who have taken over the cafe have been doing the place up with historical train artefacts and memorabilia and it's all very interesting.
I had beans on toast and Frank had baked potato + beans + salad. (The only vegan options but very nice and very cheap!)
Below is some info about the train. ;-)
