Majestic in snow
Few people made into the office this morning and most who did ended up leaving their cars at the bottom of the track (about 400m single track, quite a few bends, a steep drop on one side and in places more than 1 in 8 steep).
Many of those that did get there didn't make it beyond the first few yards from the main road before slithering back to the start. In fact, the roads around that area of Northamptonshire were themselves very poor first thing. Around home where we had had a good couple of inches more of snow most of the minor roads were all but clear despite being compacted snow and solid ice at 6pm yesterday.
Several cars that did make it beyond the first few yards had to be rescued and towed in by the sites land rover. Quite an attrition rate all in all. I ended up running a taxi service up and down the hill all day. After one of the journeys at lunchtime, I stopped and took a walk across the country park. Much of the snow had lain undisturbed although a few dog walkers had been around during the morning.
We all bailed out of site shortly after 4pm - nobody wanted to tackle slush turning to ice either on foot or in a car in the dark. Going to be fun in the morning which I will miss.
