Two Men With A Common Bond.
Forty-Eight years ago I attended my brother Gary’s Passing Out Parade at Browning Barracks, Aldershot, he had joined the Parachute Regiment.
Two years ago on this date I attended my youngest son Joshua’s Passing Out Parade at Uniacke Barracks, Harrogate, he is now in the Corps of Royal Engineers - A Sapper
A very proud Dad not just on that day, but every day.
As the inspecting officer said in his address on the day;
“From the mud at Crecy, the muddle that was Blenheim, the stubbornness of Hugemount, the blood and mud of the Western Front, the valiant years of WWII where Britain fought alone for two and a half years, against the odds that was the Falklands, the sand of Iraq and the sunshine of Helmand. You continue the tradition of service, you understand the realism of service not self, in a very short time some of you may find yourselves in harms way, but be proud for today you have joined the finest Army in the world. Godspeed”.
