Budapest Opera house

Late Blip after a long day, it's an easy blip for me as it's just around the corner from my apartment.

This is the Budapest Opera house, sorry about the odd crop but the must have had a turn on because it was kicking out time and the place was full of people, cars and taxi's.

This place is magnificent and breathtaking to see. It was design by Mikós Ybl and opened in 1884. The Emperor Franz Joseph I give permission for the Opera house to be built with the proviso that it was smaller than the Vienna Opera house. Miklos kept to this making it smaller, but he made it far more ornate, on the opening night when Franz Joseph attended he had the hump at how beautiful it was and never returned.

I've been to the opera many times, not because I'm a fan or a buff, they sing in Italian and have Hungarian subtitles so a lot of the time, well most of the time i haven't a clue whats going on. But the music and production is incredible, plus its pretty cheap.

The first time I saw the opera house I was standing roughly where I took the blip from, a coach pulled up outside the Opera house and unloaded a load of Chinese tourist who promptly all lined up outside Louis Vuitton next door had their photo taken pointing at the Vuitton bags and got back on the bus, not even given a glance towards this magnificent building.

And for this reason I say I am a traveller not a tourist :-)

Hope all your Mondays were good
