we're being appreciated today...

...yup - us squirrels

and - we rank right up there with the president... seeing as how he's taking his oath of office today, too - we think that's funny!

of course, keeping on track - can't celebrate this fun little holiday without sharing a few squirrely facts...

-there are over 200 species around the world according to national geographic
-squirrels mostly munch on nuts - fruit - seeds - flowers - buds and tree sap
-ever wondered how a squirrel can find his buried nuts... they lick it or rub it before they bury it - which leaves their scent on the nut
-measuring just 5 inches long from nose to tail - the african pygmy is the smallest
-a squirrels brain is about the size of a....walnut!

boo! i simply couldn't resist that last one... so go forth - be kind to a squirrel today... some of you might think they are rather worthless - pesty - eat your bird feed or flower bulbs... but they also clean up after you've had a picnic by eating the crumbs off the table - they entertain your dog for hours - and they've never asked for anything in return, have they? nope - slow down in your car, let them have the right of way today - try and see they serve a wonderful purpose for us on the planet - it's one day of appreciation - let's make it...

a

happy day.....
