Altered altered images

Claire’s car has another broken spring. She takes the train into town and we head for a pint and a bite at the Devil’s Advocate.

Then we join a crowd at The Liquid Room for an Altered Image’s gig. It is fuller than I expected, so we head to the balcony. The support act is Super New - very dull.

Altered Images is now an all female band. Only Clare Grogan remains from the original lineup. Even her husband is absent - on holiday with the family in Gran Canaria apparently.

It’s a good set list. Lots from Bite, not much from Pinky Blue, an excellent version of Insects from the first album. She even apologises before launching into a spirited (and mercifully short) rendition of Happy Birthday.

Clare’s voice is still pretty good, aged though it is. She starts a new song as her first encore, but starts giggling after a couple of bum notes and brings the track to an early close.

A good night out.
