This is not just chicken
My granny had a croft and kept hens. When they reached the end of their egg-laying days, they would be despatched with a quick snap of the neck and served for Sunday dinner. As she tucked in, my granny would always say, "Aye, she was a good hen". I think it's fair to say I come from a family that appreciates their food.
This beauty gave us our dinner last night, sandwiches for me and George at lunchtime today and I've just made tomorrow's packed lunches from her. I caught George in the fridge this afternoon picking bits off and it reminded me of Nigella's advice that you may as well roast 2 chickens at a time: one for serving and one for the fridge, for snacks.
