A load of old rubbish

These compost bins typify the progress within my family (or rather, my lack of progress) at getting an initiative going. I bought the cream one, probably about three years ago but purely for all food waste. My bin smells if we put our scraps into it, so a separate food bin was a good idea. The second bin (the blue one) I must have bought about two years ago when I decided we’d really make an effort to reduce waste: I’d make my own compost, I’d educate my family so they knew what to put where, I’d use the compost for planting tomatoes and strawberries In the summer - it would be great. So far, I have looked at a few websites to educate myself (never mind my family) about how to compost (we have a small town garden - how best to make and keep the compost??) and the two bins sit next to our sink, both still used for all kinds of food waste. I have no doubt we’ll get there, and one day I will make my own compost but, in the meantime, some of my projects will move forward at a snail’s pace and family life will go on. Ho hum, it’s an admirable aim.
