Looking south from Wansfell

The finest of fine days given the current weather conditions. We caught the bus from Bowness to Ambleside walking back over Wansfell, to Troutbeck up to the Garburn and Dubbs Road and finally to Orrest Head before descending back to Windermere and Bowness.

It was a walk from the Lake District Low Level and Lake Walks. It was supposed to be 8 miles but turned out to be nearer 11. We did add a further half mile walking from the bus stop in Ambleside to the Apple Pie cafe for the obligatory coffee and scone before tackling Wansfell.

The path, although steep and unrelenting is rather better than the other time we walked it as it is now a fully built path right to the summit. And there were good views all around from the summit when the hail showers permitted. It was an ever changing scene.

It was then a pleasant walk down Nanny Lane to Troutbeck with alternating spells of sunshine and hail. That pattern followed us along the Garburn Road and Dubbs Road which led us to the final short ascent to Orrest Head for the very fine views from this ever popular location.
