Pittenweem Harbour

One of the string of Fife's  East Neuk coastal villages. The buildings in the harbour area,  are collectively called 'The Gyles'. With the crow-stepped gables and pantile roofs, the architecture is synonymous with 16th-century East coast buildings,  which grew out of the trade with the Low Countries in Europe  These now consist of a number of flats. The Gyles was fortuously restored by the National Trust for Scotland as part of its Little Houses Improvement Scheme begun in the 1960s to ensure the unique appearance of these villages houses were not lost. Pittenweem conservation area is one of forty-eight such areas in Fife.  A few of the flats are up for sale at the moment. If I had the spare cash I'd be tempted!
