A Quiet Place
Our road crosses over Santa Rosa Creek on this bridge and makes its way up Wildwood Mountain. The rocks are in the water which gives an idea of how little of it there is for this time of year. I liked the ferns growing over the edge of the bridge and the shadows cast on the road by the trees growing next to the creek.
I am going to a wedding shower this weekend and decided to go to the local kitchen shop and fill a bag with kitchen gadgets for my gift. I decided to buy things I use every day with the idea that if she gets more than one of some things, they might both be put to use at once! Or the bride can take them back and get whatever she wants!
For the bride's bag I bought a vegetable peeler, a microplane grater, a hand held mandolin type slicer, a spatula, a pair of tongs, a whisk, a set of measuring spoons and a rubber spatula with dogs on it. I had started off with some notion of buying everything needed to make cookies and wrapping it in a baking sheet with a recipe, but her mother makes the best cookies in town so I decided not to compete with those....
John is still finishing up the winter chores (pruning, raking leaves, digging in compost) in the garden which is already in full spring bloom. The Birds of Paradise have grown so tall they are once again peeking through the guest bathroom window and making me laugh. I've had to move the pot of Daphne into the shade twice to keep the flowers from burning. Some things which usually go dormant for awhile, like the roses, seem to be trying to bloom before they even get new leaves. In the case of the ones by the street, the roses won't have a chance against the deer.
We're equally confused trying to decide whether to worry about elections, pandemic viruses, drought and wildfires or just drag the patio furniture out of storage, brush off the outdoor pillows and enjoy the perfect, if unseasonal, weather.
