Steamed, Not Barbecued Eggs

For the past two years, I thought these eggs were barbecued. That is, until a friend from LA asked me to ask the guy who was selling them how to make "barbecued eggs."

Well, it turns out, they are steamed. A hole is poked in one end of the egg. The egg is poured out, mixed with seasonings, and poured back into the egg shell. Then the eggs are stood up on their end so all the raw egg goo doesn't dribble out while they are steamed. Steaming done, a skewer is stuck through the original hole and makes a new hole on the other side, and they are transported around town on this BBQ on wheels to be sold to Thais and adventurous foreigners.

The banana leaf packets have a chunk of banana or taro covered by sweet sticky rice inside.

Both snack options are quite tasty!
