Between fen and mountains

Springy ropes

We were asked to get a band together to ring at a group service in Donington. Incidentally Donington is the birthplace of the navigator and cartographer who mapped most of the Australian coast.  His remains were discovered in the expansion of Euston station and will this summer be brought back to be buried in the churchyard. I called some changes in the tower but the bell ropes were very springy and awkward because the bells are rarely rung.  The ringing was, however, appreciated and the feedback from those I spoke to during coffee afterwards positive mainly because the locals rarely hear their bells.  Afterwards, I went for a chilly walk on Donington fen in a biting wind but at least it was sunny.  I lit the fire in the afternoon, made some bread and prepared the toor dahl curry for tonight. Thanks to Mrs TT who took the photo.
