Lent 2020 day 7
’For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities – his eternal power and divine nature – have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made.’ (Romans 1:20)
Gideon Heugh writes:
“There is a silver birch tree in my back garden, tall and lovely. It is autumn as I write this, and its leaves are touched by the golden wonder of the season.
By the end of the year, the branches will be bare. Then, in the spring, a host of buds will appear, before it bursts into an applause of green.
This tree helps me, in a small way, to know God better. I can sense the fertile and gleeful mind that created it. It is only a tree – one of trillions upon the Earth. But it is also a miracle of beauty – one of trillions upon the Earth.
If we are to know life in all its fullness, we need to re-wonder ourselves – to immerse our souls in the beauty of creation. To do that we need to pay attention, to step back, and to be still.”
