Landseer's lions
I popped out at lunch for a wander around Trafalgar Square. The Big Melt had dealt with the snow and the lions were mostly free from the white stuff. When I went to St Paul's recently, I came across the tomb of Sir Edwin Landseer, who sculpted the lions. Landseer was a popular Victorian painter, who painted dogs amongst many other creatures. His paintings of a particular colour of Newfoundland as rescue dogs led to that breed being named the 'Landseer Newfoundland'. J. M. Barrie owned this breed of Newfoundland and his dog inspired the character Nana in Peter Pan. However, a St Bernard imposter often plays Nana in films and plays. Tsk.
There was a Feast meeting this evening. Many of the regulars couldn't make it, but the small group made for lively, constructive conversation. We evaluated the Feast of 2012 to help with a report we have to write up for Lambeth council: what went well and what could be done to improve the market. Fortunately, we have had some funding from the Outer London Fund and this will help achieve some of the suggestions we have for improvements (many of which need some dosh and are in progress in time for the first Feast of 2013, in April).
