We started off talking about the virus. She knows she is vulnerable due to her condition but then she talked of her parents and said, ‘I don’t care if it kills them.’ All I can see is the look of disgust in my mother’s face and that voice where everything was my fault, I was the vehicle for blame for everything that was wrong and whatever I felt was minimised or denied ... ‘you just bruise easy, it’s your fault.’
Afterwards I went out for some air and I realised how traumatising this seemingly innocent sign in a card/gift shop might be for some.
