Cooking with Mom

Dear Diary,

I have Mom's old cookbook on my pantry shelf.  I haven't looked at it in, well, forever.  I took it down and found some newspaper clippings with recipes from 1969.  That was the year I married my first husband, David and Mom gave me this cookbook which she had gotten in 1947.  It wasn't the recipes that fascinated me but the food ads.  Just look at those prices!  The photo is Mom in 1942 right after she married Dad.  On the back of one clipping was an article about Richard Nixon, another awful Republican president who now looks great compared to the vile one we have now.  So much history inside a worn blue cookbook.
