Log pile - homage to Paul Nash
Over the last few days I've been aware of this log pile covered in snow in a field I drive past. Each time I've passed I have felt a very strong connection with two of my favourite painters - Paul Nash and David Bomberg. It is just the sort of scene in a field corner that they would have drawn or painted - and in this weather too. Today I determined to stop and explore. When I got closer I felt such a resonance with Nash's Great War landscapes. For Nash, beauty became more poignant in the landscape of desolation he observed from the trenches. I know he would have found my log pile interesting.
