Badger skull
I'm finding lots of animal skeletons and separate skulls at the moment because there's little vegetation covering the woodland floor. Some of them have been quite recently deceased - usually deer that have been caught out trying to jump fences - and are in various states of half-eaten/decomposing mess and quite smelly on a mild day. Others are old and have been nicely cleaned up by nature. This badger skull is easily recognised by the blunt snout (a fox's is longer and more pointed) and the tall sagittal crest running along the top. The height of this crest (around 11 mm) tells us this was a middle-aged adult - it can get to be 15 mm in an old animal.
