A place in time

Repurposed

I mentioned the other day that I'd seen a heavy glass jar I quite fancied in Bourne Mill...and this is what I wanted it for.

However, I remembered today that I had an unused stainless steel bowl that would do the trick perfectly and here it is instead.  I've kept the dowel spindle to the kitchen roll holder (being a hoarder and in case I change my mind!) but plan to use thin cotton cloths that can be machine washed rather than adding to household waste in the way of paper towels.  If anything rather heavier duty (or particularly messy) is required, I'm simply using old sheets of newspaper that I can pop in the rubbish bin or the compost.  But I figure it will still mean less waste in the bin...except you can then wonder whether I'm actually helping with anything if the cloths have to be laundered...(sighs and shrugs shoulders).  Oh well.

The Coronavirus seems to be positively galloping now, with Italy apparently on lockdown.  Yet, travellers are being allowed back into the UK (from all countries) without any health checks - is that quite wise?  In the meantime, it appears to be virtually the only news item - well, that and the crashing money markets.

My Boys are due back from Mallorca today.  It sounds like they've had a great time, although I'll admit it doesn't sound like my sort of holiday, with non-stop cycling and hill-climbs!

I hope everyone stays safe and healthy.

Thought for the day:

"The safety of the people shall be the highest law."  (Marcus Tullius Cicero, Roman philosopher born in 106 BC)
