RED PEPPER YELLOW PEPPER

The image today is food colour - something to keep you warm in this cold weather as a pepper soup ! I debated long and hard about adding grain - and then decided to. Hope you like it !

Number One - thank you so much for the comments yesterday and joining in the fun. Several of you were on the right lines and the Fred Flintstone answer was brilliant.

I had never seen one of these before - it is an Acoustic Mirror - a forerunner of radar, built on the south and northeast coasts of England between about 1916 and the 1930s. They were 'listening ears' to provide early warning of incoming enemy aircraft and airships about to attack. The metal pole had a trumpet attached to which the operator held a stethoscope to listen.
As planes got faster the mirrors became less effective and radar finally took over.

Number Two - Football again as the second semi-final was played last night - and Premier League Swansea City (who beat Boro in the last round) won the right to meet Bradford. This will also be their first time at Wembley Stadium - so 24th February will be a grand day for the little teams. I hope all supporters have a grand day whilst the overpaid and selfish celebrity players keep out of the way !

For more details of the mirror in the image yesterday, and many others, Andrew Grantham has done a vast amount of work - please click here to view. Thank you Andrew.
