Scaffolding

A major problem at Oxburgh was putting scaffolding over the moat without damaging the moat-bed and losing the water. The answer was to place huge sandbags in the moat and build the scaffolding on concrete platforms atop the sandbags. Extensive trials were carried out before the scaffolding was erected to ensure the stability of the moat-bed and also the water quality as the moat has fish and plants and is served by the river Gadder to which the water returns, so there had to be no pollution.
