Lockdown Day 4
Highlight was a trip to the supermarket. It's about 2 mins away! I had a shopping list as we didn't want to forget anything, but somehow I still forgot salt! Interesting to note what I noticed what there was a shortage/lack of : chickpeas, tins of olives (usually shelves and shelves of different varieties), kitchen roll, the usual sanitising household cleaning spray, lemons. It felt strange in the supermarket, almost like you were shopping alone, and if someone was in the aisle you wanted to go into then you just walked away and went back when it was empty. In the queue people were standing 2 metres apart. Most people were wearing masks, which certainly added to surreal atmosphere. Given there are only two of us I managed to fill our own metal shopping trolley and there was no panic buying, just the odd jar and tin of essentials and one packet of toilet rolls!
The lowlight of the day was hearing that one of my best friends is in isolation after getting a call from her school to say that one of her students has been confirmed as positive with the virus. She is already recovering from a chest infection (unrelated) and exhausted at having to support her colleagues through the stressful situation at her workplace because of potential loss of their jobs.
Dinner tonight was the rest of the spinach and chickpea curry from last night and leftover chicken from Sunday lunch - delicious!
Rest of the day: I started my month-long course on teaching online. No Aptis as test centres are now being closed around the world. Spotted the first of the jasmine flowering on the patio (possible future blip). Lots of whatsApping flying around for support and news updates as people get them. Our morning cleaning of doorhandles, taps, light switches is now becoming routine. And more community clapping on the balcony at 8pm in support of health workers.
