The day started well. I slept for an hour longer than usual, received a Happy Mothers Day message from Jane which reminded me that I hadn’t opened the card that came yesterday.  Breakfast eaten and plans made for the day.

Then I went out to top the bird feeders up and put some of the table mix out. My neighbour appeared at the back door. She said something about pigeons and her clothes line …… and her and her husbands work ‘uniforms’ being on the line …… and could I not feed the pigeons …… and she couldn’t afford to go to Kendal and buy more soap powder …… and she had to get a new washing machine a few weeks ago. Not wishing to get confrontational I said I’d see what I could do. That obviously wasn’t good enough because she then went on about the bird feeders giving her a migraine (glinting in the sun) …… and why couldn’t I put them at the other side of the garden (because I can’t hammer the pole into the ground there). She went indoors, I laid the bird table down …… and uttered a few words I shouldn’t have done. Hope no-one was listening. I will in future check her washing line before putting loose seed out but no way am I responsible for the washing machine breaking.

The story didn’t end there but that’s enough for today. Sorry about the rant …… I don’t do it often.

I wandered down the hill in the afternoon and was amazed at how few people there were. Not only were all cafes shut again but more shops were closed than yesterday. I was even more surprised to see the ice cream kiosk making it’s first outing of the year.

Finally I popped into Tesco to buy a few things to cheer myself up. New rules there …… tape on floor by tills …… wait until called …… put basket down and step back behind tape …… come forward to pay ……. card only.

I don’t feed the pigeons! I feed the robins, great tits, coal tits, blue tits, blackbirds, a thrush, dunnocks, chaffinches, greenfinches, bullfinches, goldfinches and yellowhammers. I can’t help it if we also get two wood pigeons.
