The Corona Diaries, day #7
Our first birthday under lockdown.
We'd already decided we wouldn't do big birthday parties this year.
All three kids celebrate their birthdays between early March and early April and as they're all now teens or pre-teens, we agreed to do away with the birthday parties at home and head to the coast for a day out instead.
That was a good few weeks ago... and now we are where we are. This is our second birthday this month and the first under lockdown.
After the gorgeous weather of Thursday and Friday, we were hoping to have a picnic in the garden, but it's been decidedly nippy since yesterday so we had to make do with indoors. Gaël made crêpes (flavoured with Baileys - yum!) and Tess invited us to eat them at a picnic in her bedroom.
Then this evening we had the pork and rice salad she'd chosen for the outdoor picnic ... but inside, with an amazing passion fruit and raspberry cake from the village bakery. Huge thanks to them for agreeing to make the cake despite these difficult times and baguette wars (see Tuesday's Blip!).
A day she'll remember anyway - and as we're still waiting for her presents to be delivered (non-essential shops closed), she knows she's got a few more surprises to come.
Life goes on...
