Tongland Bridge
Today's the day ………………………. to illuminate
This is a view, taken over the hedge of our garden, of Thomas Telford's Bridge at Tongland, near Kirkcudbright. It has featured fairly often in this journal because I like and admire it so much! And here it is again because, at this time of the year, something magical happens to it.
Because the days are lengthening and the sun's path at the end of the day is changing - it's about now, that the sun is high enough in the sky - and in the right place - to shine through the arches of the bridge before it drops below the horizon.
The effect is a bit like sunshine through the big windows of a cathedral, illuminating the stone...………….
