Following the government’s advice I stayed at home merely walking five metres across the road to get this photo of blackthorn in the hedge opposite. However my exercise involved a lot of digging and trying to remove the tiny roots of two invasive flowers which creep up between, and beneath, the plants that I want to keep. As I worked I heard skylarks and yellowhammers calling to each other and watched two buzzards soaring above and realised that in nature things seemed almost normal.
