Distance

You don’t have to look too far to hear a heart-breaking story. Our neighbour is in his eighties and lives the other side of the shrubbery behind the trampoline* in the photo. His wife has dementia and and has been in a local care home for the last year. He visits her daily and never misses. Lockdown for him means he hasn’t seen his wife for the last week and there’s no immediate prospect of him being able to make the short journey to be with her again. I can’t begin to imagine how lonely he feels right now.



* I assembled the trampoline tonight. I hate the thing, but during the long weeks ahead I’m sure the girls will love it.
