Melting at last

Winter hasn't been too bad so far but I have been getting a little tired of walking on icy sidewalks. Today the temperature went up to plus 4C, the skies were clear and the day was topped off with a bright full moon.

You might notice the hill in the background has few trees. In 2003 a spectacular fire swept up the mountainside. It burned so hot and fast that the long needles of the ponderosa pines that didn't completely burn were almost instantly dried and frozen into position facing up the hill because of the strong updraft caused by the fire. In 2003 there were many bad fires in British Columbia.
