The Cenotaph and Clock Tower
This photo was taken in Feilding on our way home from Palmy. Coming here brings back memories as I lived here once upon a time. Offcourse back then (about 14 years ago) there wasn't a clock tower so it's interesting to see the changes in this little town.....different......yet the same..
The cenotaph has some significance for me as well. The last time I was here was when the plaque for Lt Tim O'Donnell was being unveiled, the first Kiwi soldier (officer) to be killed in Afghanistan. I still remember when the announcement was made in the mess hall that afternoon in Bamiyan. We all knew a patrol had been 'contacted' only an hour or so before and had heard rumours of injury amongst our comrades but when the news that one of our own had been KIA......... the silence that followed the announcement was deafening...
RIP Tim, you will not be forgotten...
On another note, we traded in our 'ol 96 escudo for a 2008 sportage earlier today. I like the new car, but miss the suzuki allready.....
