Today's the day ………………… to obey the rules

It felt very odd today, leaving the safe confines of home and heading off into the metropolis of Kirkcudbright to do the weekly shop.

For a start, there were people about - and as I am now conditioned to avoid them.  Even to join the end of a queue for the Post Office or the Chemist seemed a very risky thing to do.  And it soon became clear that quite a lot of people were either incapable of or unwilling to follow the new rules.

I could give you several examples of unreasonable behaviour - like the woman who calmly ignored the Post Office queue (I was at the head of it, just about to go in when the next person came out) - and just walked in bold as brass.  Or the man who was about to join the supermarket queue but was told that they were about to close for an hour because new supplies had just arrived.  He gave a mouthful of abuse to the Shop Assistant and stormed off.  There was no need for any of it.

By the time I had spent a couple of hours queuing at various places, I was very glad to be home.  Weeding the rockery was a much more calming and enjoyable experience - and that's where I found this little beauty above.

On a lighter note, the extra is something that was posted on a local website today with the following caption -

At twilight this morning this vessel left Kirkcudbright Harbour - Royal Fleet Auxiliary Argus (A135) which during times of war acts as a floating Hospital with two fully equipped wards and mortuary. After picking up medical personnel and essential supplies from Dundrennan Military Training Area the Royal Navy plan to moor Argus on the Thames near London to provide support to the health system during the Coronavirus Pandemic. It's nice to see Kirkcudbright playing a part in this situation.

It took us quite a while to remember that today was April 1st ………………………….!
