Devil’s Coach-Horse

This strange beetle was in my kitchen sink today. It was quite happy to cling to my hand to get out, though it turned up its tail in its threat pose. I’ve made two images of it to show the short wing cases, the white stink glands and fine wings. At one stage, as I chased it with the camera about my hand and wrist, the wings almost covered the abdomen. Apparently they bite, but it didn’t bite me. Neither did it deploy its stink glands. However, it did show an interest in running up my sleeve, which is when we parted company.
