Horses on the Sands
It was a brilliant, warm sunny day here in the Abel Tasman National Park (ATNP). We travelled by Water Taxi from Marahau right up the coast to Bark Bay. At 10.15am we set off walking south from there, heading back to Marahau. It was pretty well high tide once we reached Torrent Bay so we were unable to walk/wade through the Torrent Bay estuary as is usually the case when the tide is right. So we had to take the "High Tide Route"around the perimeter of the estuary. This added another four kms to our journey but enabled us to side-track up the Torrent River to take a look at Cleopatra's Pool. It was well worth the visit. There were beautiful scenes to photograph at almost every turn of the track...Scenes to die for. As it was, the one I have chosen for today was captured near the very end of our trek. The Marahau sand flats seen at low tide are truly beautiful on a clear sunny day with the blue of the sky reflected in the tiny waterways and pools. There were horses treking on the sands. What a way to spend an afternoon.... We were out of the ATNP at our predicted time of 6.10pm on the dot! We had covered over 26 kms on foot today and are now feeling a trifle jaded but very pleased with our journey.
