Empty Chairs at Empty Tables
To get to the green space in Holt at Spout Hills I have to walk through town. It is now so empty and with the shop windows mostly empty too and I always get the song from Les Miserables, 'Empty Chairs at Empty Tables', running through my head. Holt has a lot of small coffee shops like this one, at the moment I can't see people wanting to go into such a confined space to drink coffee until we've all been vaccinated and I'm doubtful if they can survive. With the sad news today of nearly 1,000 deaths in the UK from CV in one day alone and over 100,000 deaths worldwide, I thought it appropriate to share the song and the thought that each individual death is a tragedy for their family and friends and leaves an 'empty chair'

Day 26 / Day 18 of Lockdown (for my record only)
UK deaths up 980 to 8,958 (a higher daily increase than experienced by either Italy or Spain), Italy up 570 to 18,849, Spain up 605 to 15,843. EU agrees a €500bn rescue package for EU countries badly affected by CV, lower than wanted by the European Central Bank. New York State's death toll up to 7,844 and mass burials now taking place. The head of the IMF has warned that the world is facing the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression of the 1930s.
The PM is now able to take short walks as part of his recovery. The Health Secretary explains how he's tackling PPE issues via improving usage guidance, using the armed forces for distribution and appealing for British companies to help via re-purposing to support supply. Two new NHS Nightingale hospitals announced for Sunderland and Exeter (nothing in the East yet).I read on SKY news that after the drop in the base rate, banks immediately reduced the rate for savers and increased the rate for a lot of borrowers - unbelievable!
