Dame Ninette de Valois
Day 24 - Dame Ninette de Valois was born as Eddies Stannus in County Wicklow,Ireland. She came to England when she was 7, started ballet lessons at the age of 10 and changed her name as a teenager before she became a professional dancer. She was a principal dancer at the Royal Opera House but she stepped back from intense dancing in her late 20’s to choreograph and produce ballets and set up ballet schools. she was the founder and Artistic Director of the Royal Ballet from 1931-1963. Her successor being Frederick Ashton. She married a doctor who worked as GP in Barnes. This house is on the Terrace at Barnes overlooking the river.see extra.
