Winter Blue

A pro photographer friend of mine called this colour of sky winter blue and was always looking for it in his winter shots.

Spent the day walking in the snow over the Darwen Moors. Last nights dump of snow left our part of the world monochrome although fives up the road towards Preston there is nothing. Not having the benefit of 4WD it was a cautious drive to our usual parking spot. We did pass a dozens of cars that had been abandoned the night before on the snow storm. Full marks to the council for gritting and clearing the road.

It is always a great pleasure to walk in virgin snow even if it does sap your energy and give the legs a good workout. The wooded Tockholes valley was calf deep but the moors had been scoured with occassional deep drifts of three to four feet. The sense of scale of the moorland is demonstrated by the walker in red jacket if you can spot him/her.

Finished off with a few goes on my sledge at the end of the walk you never know if this is to be the last snow of winter.

I was last up Darwen on New Years day.

PS. the weather men got it spot on quick thaw meant all the snow has now gone.
