Black Poplar -Populus Nigra

These are the base of two of the tallest trees in Cuerden Valley Park. They are possibily 30mtrs tall and scores of people walk past them every day and never stop to admire their beauty or majesty. At present these two giants are a roost for a huge flock of jackdaw (est 1600-2000 birds) that assemble at dusk. While not as spectacular as a staring murmuration it makes up for its lack of numbers with a great cacophony of raucous sound.
