Lingfield Road - No 1 of an Occasional Series
Lingfield Road runs from East Grinstead to (unsurprisingly) Lingfield; at some point beyond the Sussex/Surrey border as it gets closer to Lingfield it becomes East Grinstead Road.
As can be seen from the map ((c) by the National Library of Scotland) back in 1877 it is still very rural. The town didn't get its direct line to London for another 7 years at which point the whole nature of the town changed.
Certainly no sign of St Mary's Church in the adjacent Windmill Lane, although the Windmill that gave the road its name is shown (It was sold and dismantled in 1901)
