Toy train or serious transport alternative

Sky train at Birmingham airport on the day that HS2 phase 2 was announced in the UK.

I know that major capital projects are required to stimulate the economy but I don't think the investment of £B (not sure how many) to cut minutes if a train journey is the best use of that money.

Train travel should be relaxing and leisurely, not a mad dash to get somewhere.
