Broom
Cytisus scaparius
The word Brom in Old English simply meant a coarse shrub many kinds of which, such as gorse, heather and holly, were used for sweeping.
Broom was one of the most effective and easy to use and eventually won exclusive rights to the title.
Its Latin name “planta genista” led to the name Plantagenets as Broom was the emblem of of Geoffrey of Anjou, the father of Henry ll.
Its golden flowers have a lovely scent of vanilla.
Thanks to L. who suggested I came to look at this Broom in her garden.
Extra. From the guest bedroom window. But of course there are no guests.
