About to turn

Manassas Battlefield

This morning I walked around the battlefield where the first Battle of Manassas, also known as the Battle of Bull Run, was fought in 1861. It was cold and damp out, but probably sweltering that day. Very sobering to read the signs, which said what I've learned before - 5,000 men died on this field. Sometimes it's a surprise to realize how recent that really was, historically speaking.

One extra shows a tree at the battlefield. The other is looking through a yard near the top of our hill, which I walked again with W. tonight. In the distance you can see the blue outline of the Bull Run Mountains, which form a chain just a bit east of the Blue Ridge. The town of Manassas is on the other side.

Hope you all have a safe, relaxing weekend!
