Wild Garlic

This year the Wild Garlic has been superb, foamy white sheets extending as far as the eye can see, beneath the fresh spring-green canopy. Pete accompanied me on a walk round Old Sulehay where we found several other botanical treasures, including Herb-paris on a ride-edge (see extra) and the diminutive flowers of Small-flowered Buttercup and Early Forget-me-not in the quarry.

Grizzled and Dingy Skippers were also spotted in the quarry, as well as Green Tiger-beetles and a small group of Common Lizards - though none of these stayed still long enough for a photograph. In a scrubby corner of the woodland a Nightingale was singing a duet with a Blackcap - a heart-achingly beautiful sound.
